Hello My Name Is...

Katie Hansen

I was born and raised in Danville, Kentucky.  I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio.  I moved to Chattanooga shortly after graduating college and worked as a legal assistant in the Juvenile Court-Child Support Division.  In May of 2011 I married Mr. (Brent) Hansen.  Shortly after getting married, I went back to school to pursue a career in teaching.  In May of 2013, I graduated from UTC where I received my teaching certification and Masters of Education simulaneously.  I am certified to teach PreK-3.  My student teaching experience was in a K/1 multiage classroom at McConnell Elementary and then in a PreK classroom at Orchard Knob Elementary.  While attending UTC, I worked at the UTC Children's Center at Brown Academy with children from infancy to PreK.  After receiving my Masters of Education, I had the opportunity to teach in two interim teaching positions at North Hamilton County Elementary.  I filled in for a third grade teacher who was out on maternity leave from the end of August to mid-October and then finished out the school year teaching kindergarten.  I joined the Falling Water Elementary team and community teaching kindergarten in the 2014-15 school year and looping with many of my students up to first grade in the 2015-16 school year.  With the closing of Falling Water, I joined the new Middle Valley Elementary staff.  I have taught first grade at MVE for the past two years and look forward to another school year with a great first grade teach and support staff!

Outside of school, I love to create (paint, draw, craft, etc.), sing, bake, read, play golf with my husband, do yoga and spend time with my family and my dog, Maggie.  This summer, my husband and I welcomed our first child, Laura Elaine Hansen, into the world.  Our lives have truly changed now that she is with us and we wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!  I am lucky enough to have Laura join the MVE family with me this year as a Mini Marvel!  We are both so excited for this school year and we hope you are too!
